How to Choose the Right PVC Door Curtain

2015 10/23

The popularity of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) has increased due to its affordability, durability, and ease of assembly, which allows for many uses such as flooring products, water beds, cable installations, pipes, roofing materials and hoses. This thermoplastic polymer can also be used to make door curtains.

When used in industrial or commercial set ups, these curtains allow easy and safe access of people, equipment, and machinery such as forklifts. They also effectively eliminate the entry of unwanted elements or pollutants such as noise, dust, insects, draughts, welding flash, and sprays into a building. With a PVC door curtain, one of its sides is kept uncontaminated and protected from the other.

Before choosing a curtain, you need to first determine the grade that you will need. Presently, there are three grade levels available for PVC door curtains. These include ribbed, polar quality, and standard. Ribbed doors are best used in industrial set ups such as food plants where machinery such as forklifts would repeatedly use the door. If the temperature of the place you intend to install your curtain will not go under zero degrees, then a standard grade should be your best choice. Otherwise, choose a polar quality PVC door grade if you intend to install the curtain in a cold storage room or facility, or a food processing plant where low-temperatures will need to be maintained.

PVC door curtains are available in different sizes depending on their applications. Your needs will determine which door size to select. If your door will only be used by pedestrian or human traffic, then choose size 200/2. Size 300/3 is recommended where human and light mechanical traffic is expected to use the curtain. Choose size 400/4 for heavy and frequent mechanical traffic. Consult with your PVC door curtain manufacturer or seller to determine which size will best fit your needs and if a custom door size can be made for your unique needs.

Consider the hanging system that you will use for your PVC door curtain. There are different types of door hanging systems, the more popular being the plates and hanging rails system. The plates are available in different sizes including 200mm, 300mm, and 400mm to suit different door curtain applications and requirements. A bolt-on system is another type of door hanger. This system is recommended for heavy human and machinery traffic as well as for large openings.

Different PVC door curtain manufacturers and suppliers offer different prices and quality for their products. Find out the door market price and quality from at least two manufacturers or suppliers in order to have good options to choose from. Determine whether installation services are offered once you purchase a door curtain. Some sellers provide a blueprint and instructions for installing the curtain. You will be better assured of the quality of a curtain if the company you purchase it from installs it for you.
